4 Tips For  Watering Your

LAWN

THIS SUMMER

With the extreme heat of Summer, your beautiful green lawn can turn into a brittle, brown mess fast.

WHEN?

Signs that your lawn needs  watered are when:

1

-There are  visible footprints.

-You notice  soil gaps.

-There is dryness in  bed edges.

-Your soil is too hard to easily  push a 6 inch  screwdriver into.

HOW MUCH?

It is recommended to water until the top 6 to 8 inches  of soil is wet. Most lawns need about 1 to 1.5 inches of water per week – either from rain or watering. If you don't want to water your lawn daily, roughly one  hour every other day  should suffice.

2

WHAT TIME?

Morning is the best, even if it is just before sunrise.

3

Afternoon waterings are also fine (required some days), even though more water is lost to evaporation.

Late evening is the time to avoid watering a lawn  if possible.

WHEN TO STOP?

Check the soil by trying the screwdriver test. If you can easily push a screwdriver at least 6 inches deep into your lawn, then your grass has been watered enough.

“If in doubt –

The best rule of thumb is:

WATER!”

Watering is so important that it can make the difference between luxuriant success  and total failure.  Failures further delay  the look of a beautiful lawn and translate into even more watering.
